CLASSES AND TEACHING SCHEDULE

I spent the summer of 2008 teaching yoga at the Cedar Springs Renewal Center in Sedro Woolley, Washington www.cedarsprings.org. I am currently giving private lessons and hope to be doing classes again this summer, however, in a different location. I am trained in Iyengar Yoga primarily and teach at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced level. Please contact me for further information on current yoga classes and instruction that I am offering

Around 1992, 3 years after becoming a vegetarian, I began to practice yoga.  I was intersted in increasing my flexibility.

I began by watching a TV program out of Minneapolis.  This was at a time when yoga was virtually unknown, and, certainly not the fadish and popular activity that it is today.  A copy of BKS Iyengar’s Light On Yoga  came into my hands and I was intrigued by his encyclopedic rendition of the yoga poses.  I began practicing them from the begining of the book.  There are, I think 250 poses in the Iyengar style.  Over the next few years I mastered all but the last 50.  These last 50 are extremely difficult in most cases, and, I am presently working on them.  In the meantime I teach privately and give classes.  I feel that my thorough study, my teaching experience, and my 18 years of practice more than qualify me as an instructor.  I have studied many other books on yoga, including the famous, complex, and thorough Anatomy of Yoga by Coulter which is used by many teacher training courses.

Yoga will be with me for the rest of my life.  I have found no better way to stay in shape, avoid injury, maintain proper posture and poise, and advance in flexibility.  One thinks that as one ages, the body cannot increase its range of function, that it can only gradually decrease.  This is not true.  I am more flexible now than I was at age 13, and, with the way I eat (low fat raw vegan)  my physical abilities are the same as when I was in my early 20’s.    I visited a doctor in Mexico not too long ago and he told me that I had the vital signs of a 15 year old male.  Not bad for a 58 year old!  I surf and jazz dance frequently with people in the 20's.  I play tennis, hike, ride a bicycle, jog, lift weights, cross country ski, and rarely ever have any problems other than sore muscles after over exertion.  My agility, poise, and flexibility is much due to my daily yoga practice.
